Tech Graduation A Time To Celebrate Students Work Throughout Pandemic

The big day is almost here for Tennessee Tech students as they prepare to cross the stage for graduation.

Chief Communication Officer Karen Lykins said with a graduating class of over 1300 students, Tucker Stadium was the best suited venue. Lykins said Marc Burnett, the SGA President, a former NASA deputy director and the executive vice president of the largest Farm Bureau in the U.S. will speak by video.

“It is absolutely great, it is exactly what I think everyone needs on this campus is a time of celebration,” Lykins said. “And a time to look back and see what we’ve overcome and just have some fun.”

Lykins said that ceremonies will be at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Friday, with ceremonies divided by colleges of study. Lykins said that masks are needed to enter the event and there will be socially distanced seating.

She said if anyone attending needs additional information, it is all online at tntech.edu/commencement.

“We made the choice at the very beginning of COVID to do everything we could to keep that in-person experience during commencement,” Lykins said. “With such a large graduating class the best way to do that was to take it outdoors and make sure everybody has the full experience. It also really helps us to have it outdoors so we don’t limit guests.”

Lykins said that students have put in a lot of hard work to reach this point. She said that’s why they want to make this important, serious day in their life, as exciting as possible.

“We’ve actually added a little portion of fun into the ceremony, that will be a surprise,” Lykins said. “Of course it is very formal and serious but it’s also a time to just party for a few minutes.”

Ceremonies will be at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Friday, with ceremonies divided by colleges of study. If graduates or families need additional information, it is all online at tntech.edu/commencement.
