T-DOT Begins Three-Year, Four Mile Project At S.R. 26 In DeKalb

A DeKalb County improvement project has begun along some four miles of State Route 26.

T-DOT Community Relations Officer Rae-Anne Bradley said work includes grading and drainage upgrades as well as constructing retaining walls and paving.

“Currently, drivers will notice the majority of construction taking place on either side of State Route 26 while the contractor continues clearing, installing erosion control measures and relocating utilities,” Bradley said.

Bradley said motorists can expect minor delays during the day from State Route 96 to State Route 53 in Alexandria. Bradley said the $30.8 million project is expected to be completed in June of 2024.

“Upon completion of the project, the route will be five lanes and that will be two lanes in each direction with a dedicated center turn lane for the entire length of State Route 26,” Bradley said.

Bradley said as construction progresses, temporary lane closures are expected. Bradley said drivers are asked to follow speed limits and watch out for road crews while using the road.
