Student Charged After Assault at White County Middle School

Authorities have charged a White County teen for allegedly assaulting a fellow student at White County Middle School.

Sheriff Steve Page said the incident occurred last week following a dispute between the students.

“One had accused the other one of stealing something out of his locker,” Page said. “From what I understand they were in the lunchroom and one kid walked up and just punched the other for whatever reason, and that’s pretty well what happened.”

Page said the School Resource Officer (SRO) on duty was nearby and acted quickly when the alleged assault took place.

“He was right there when it happened. He stepped in and took control of the situation,” Page said. “The best outcome possible came out of it as far as handling the situation. The principal and the SRO did a very good job taking control of the situation.”

Page said the injured student is recovering after suffering a concussion and being taken to Nashville for treatment.

“I give a good comment to the school. They handled this very professionally and very well,” Page said. “They were right on top of everything. You can’t always control what’s going to happen, you just have to do the best you can when it does happen.”

The identities of the two students will not be released as they are minors.
