State Parks Hosting Volunteer Events For TN Promise Service Hours

Tennessee Parks across the Upper Cumberland are offering volunteer events Saturday for students who need TN Promise service hours.

Edgar Evins State Park Manager Brad Halfacre said his park will be cleaning up the Highland Rim Nature Trail on Saturday. Halfacre said flood debris on the trail is the effort they’ve targeted for students.

“If I had the choice of picking up trash on the roadside or picking up trash on a trail, I would much rather be on the trail,” Halfacre said. “You’ve got the beautiful flowers, the flora and fauna in the trail and plus, Center Hill Lake.”

Halfacre said signups are online but students can show up at the Edgar Evins Park Office before 10:00 AM. Halfacre said participants need to bring water, sack lunch and sturdy shoes since they’ll be cleaning until 2:00 PM.

“We’re going to be doing the Highland Rim Nature Trail at the park office, or visitors center,” Halfacre said. “Center Hill Lake, it fluctuates up and down and we’ve had some flood debris from the last time the waters were up and over the trail. We’ve had some work days cleaning up down there. So this is just kind of following up and tidying up that area down there.”

Halfacre said there will be another one of these TN Promise focused cleanups in the fall. He said the park identifies a project that requires multiple sets of hands.
