Stacks For Steve Poker Tournament Fundraising For Scholarships

A night of Texas Holdem in Gainesboro to honor the life of a father, husband and friend.

The inaugural Stacks for Steve is coming this Saturday at 5:00 PM to raise money for the Steve Eugene Johnson Memorial Scholarship fund. Event Host Jordan Hunter said up to 60 participants are welcome to the eight table tournament.

“We wanted to start something to continually fund his memorial scholarship that goes to a TCAT student over at the high school every year,” Hunter said. “We wanted to find a way to memorialize him and then also do something fun for the community.”

Hunter said the entry fee will be $60, which includes 1 meal ticket. Hunter said the goal is to raise enough funds for two $1,000 scholarships for Jackson County High School.

“Our first prize is going to a be a three night stay at Wildwood Resort, with a one day pontoon rental,” Hunter said. “Then the second prize is going to be two tickets to the Grand Ole Opry. Third prize is a trip down the Roaring River for two, as well as a $25 gift certificate to The Stolen Coin.”

Hunter if you find yourself losing at a table, one can buy back in through donation. Hunter said the winners of the losers bracket will have a chance to win a cooler.

“We’re hoping for a good turnout, we do have about 20 tickets left for the initial tournament,” Hunter said. “But if you can’t get a ticket and you come and you wanted to buy back into that losers bracket there should probably be a seat at one of those tables.”

Hunter said the event will be at the Rosewood Chapel with professional dealers. For more information or to purchase tickets in person, call Clay Thaxton at (931) 267-4880.
