Sparta Approves Bid To Re-plaster Pool

A $130,500 bid approved by Sparta Aldermen to re-plaster the YMCA pool before the new swim season begins.

City Administrator Tonya Tindle said the city went with a slightly higher bid. Tindle said that YMCA Director Kyle Goff spoke highly of the company.

“He hasn’t seen these that I know of but without even knowing the prices he said if he had his pick he had worked with Madison and they were good to work with,” Tindle said. “But he couldn’t specify the other ones because he hadn’t worked with them.”

The project will help the swimming pool, which has suffered from major water leaks. Previous patch work did not fix the issue.

Tindle said the awarded bid will replaster the pool with a material called Hydrazzo which she was told was one of the best materials for the YMCA’s pool. Mayor Jerry Lowery said the company would be able to complete the replastering before the upcoming swim season.

“The company did say that they would go within well six weeks after purchase order so that would beat swim season,” Lowery said.

Tindle said the city had an issue with the awarded bid as it originally stated it came with a one-year warranty. Tindle said after conversations with Madison Swimming Pools they found it was supposed to be a ten-year warranty.

“It was just a typo and we would have overlooked that one,” Tindle said. “The other one was $136,000 and it had a ten-year warranty and so we would have overlooked it and I said well just call. So she called and they said that was their fault that was a typo, and it is ten-year because it is the same product and it is a patented product.”

The aldermen approved a budget amendment earlier in the meeting to provide the funds within the budget for the project.
