Software Error Included Cookeville, Algood in Tornado Warning

A software error accidentally included Cookeville and Algood in a tornado warning issued Monday evening meant for DeKalb County.

Brittney Whitehead is a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Nashville.

“Unfortunately we did experience a software error when we issued that warning, and we’re still looking into exactly why the cities in Putnam County were included in that warning,” Whitehead said. “We’ve actually sent that on up the ladder and elevated it to get some answers there, but those were mistakenly and incorrectly put in due to a software error that we’re still investigating.”

Despite the false alarm, no sirens were triggered warning of a tornado in Putnam County.

Whitehead said survey crews were sent to DeKalb County Tuesday morning to survey reports of damage and determine if a tornado touched down in the area.
