Severe Weather Sweeps Through Upper Cumberland

Severe weather swept through the Upper Cumberland Friday as tornado sirens were heard throughout the area.

Although no tornadoes were reported, several counties were effected by the evening storms.

Clay County’s 911 Dispatch suffered from the storm system. Overton-Pickett 911 Director Chris Masiongale said Overton and Putnam Counties sent mobile dispatch units after Clay County’s service was disabled due to a possible lightning strike.

Putnam County 911 Dispatch Director Brandon Smith said multiple trees were down along Zeb Warren Road north of Algood. No structural damage was reported.

Cumberland County EMA Director Rick Williams said a brush fire was reported along Sparta Highway, but no other incidents were reported.

The National Weather Service in Nashville issued a flood advisory for Cumberland, central Putnam, and northeast White Counties until 12:45 a.m. Saturday. Approximately two inches of rain fell during the first system and another one to two inches are expected throughout the night.
