Several Contested City Races Thursday

Some new faces will be elected to the Cookeville City Council Thursday night.

Current Council members Ricky Shelton, Dwight Henry, and Chuck Womack will be seeking re-election to the five council seats on Thursday’s ballot.

In addition, Vern Crabtree, Mark Miller, Eric Walker and Laurin Wheaton will all be seeking a seat in the council chambers.

Algood citizens will be voting for either Kirk Dyer or Lisa Chapman-Fowler to be the next mayor. Dyer appointed to the position of mayor earlier this year after Scott Bilbrey resigned from the position. Chapman-Fowler previously served as the Mayor of Algood. She was the first female to ever serve in that position.

Meantime, the town of Monterey will also have a two-way race for mayor as Bill Wiggins attempts to win re-election over current councilwoman Rebecca Iaquinta.
