School Board Votes To Begin Search For Director Of Schools

The Putnam County Board of Education voted Thursday to begin advertising the director of schools position.

Chairman Dawn Fry said the board has selected a 12 member committee to lead the national search.

“We will post tomorrow and see what applications we get,” Fry said. “Hopefully, in April we will be able to have a decision with a new director starting July 1.”

The Director of Schools Advisory Committee consists of Cookeville High School Assistant principal Michelle Bowman, Park View Elementary School parent Kim Thorpe, former Putnam County teacher Jason Baugh, parent Michael Detweiler, Burks Elementary School teacher Gerri Reese, PSES special needs parent Kayla Todd, former Putnam County Board of Education member Eric Brown, retired Putnam County high school business teacher Connie Dalton, retired Putnam county principal and supervisor Dr. Linda Nash, former Putnam County principal and teacher Michael Meihls, Farm Bureau agent Barry Daniel, and retired Putnam County principal Richard Norton.

The board also approved a resolution setting the pay for Interim Director of Schools Corby King. The resolution sets his compensation rate at $70.83 per day for as long as he serves the interim position.

King began serving as interim director after Jerry Boyd resigned from his director of schools position last month. King has previously stated that he plans to apply for the director of schools position.
