250 million roses will be sold for Valentines Day, and local florist Rosemary Andrews said the flower remains the classic choice for Valentine’s Day.
Andrews said roses remain the best-selling flower for Valentine’s Day, symbolizing love and tradition. She said their popularity goes beyond standalone bouquets, as she often weaves them into other arrangements to add a romantic touch.
“Typically, people just do like a dozen roses, you know of course that in a, we arrange them in a vase with the greenery and baby breath and a ribbon on them,” Andrews said. “That’s just the traditional way but of course a lot of people want other flowers mixed with it, so we would do that as well. Do a mixed spring arrangement with the roses added to it.”
Andrews said business surges around Valentine’s Day, with customers going all out for their loved ones. She said some request dozens of roses to place in different rooms throughout their home. She also said others receive daily flower deliveries in the week leading up to the holiday.
“I think it’s gonna be pretty stable,” Andrews said. “I think people. It’s gonna continue and people are still going to believe that the rose means love. And so that’s what they’re going to give their sweethearts on Valentine’s Day.”
Andrews said roses have been a staple in her shop for as long as she can remember. Andrews said they hold a timeless charm on Valentine’s Day, making them the go-to choice for many. She also said the tradition will most likely continue for generations to come.
“I’ve been here, my grandfather is the one who started it,” Andrews said. “And so it’s been like this since I’ve been here.”
