Roof repair bids for the Cookeville High School and Cane Creek Elementary School came in under budget.
Putnam County Schools Facilities Director John Magura said the Cookeville High School bid arrived at $1 million. Repairs to the Cane Creek roof will cost some $690,000.
“Both roofs are being fixed because they’ve exceeded their lifespan,” Magura said. “Typically a roof will last approximately 20 years, they’re both approximately 24 years old. We’ve been having leaks at both locations.”
Magura said the school system chose Chattanooga’s JDH Company for the high school and Morrison’s Porter Roofing for Cane Creek. He said it should take 150 days for the high school project to complete, and 120 days for Cane Creek.
“All roofing projects are based upon the weather,” Magura said. “If we have good weather, we should be able to meet the days allotted in the contract.”
The maintenance department will hold a pre-construction meeting Friday to determine the starting date of the project.
