Retail Shopping Center Pitched To Crossville Officials

The city of Crossville has an opportunity to land a retail shopping center.

On Wednesday, officials with Atlanta-based Hand Properties told city council members about plans to develop property on Interstate Drive.

Fred Hand IV said the company evaluated the Crossville market in 2014 and found that it wasn’t the right time to develop the land.

“We have re-evaluated Crossville and believe that based on the success of Cookeville, Crossville has a very legitimate chance of landing a significant regional shopping center,” Hand said. “We are under contract on both parcels again and I intend to re-submit the site package to Publix.”

The property under contract consists of about 15-acres next to Dollar Tree and across the street from Rocky Top 10 Cinema.

“In terms of regional draw, it’s not just a 5 mile radius range on the town, it’s going to draw regionally,” Hand said.

The project would require some turning lanes and signalization to be added around Interstate Drive and Old Jamestown Highway, Hand said.

The city council will continue discussions with Hand Properties in the near future.
