Putnam Schools Budget Gap At $6.19 Million

The budget gap for the Putnam County School System sits at $6.19 million.

The Putnam County School Board approved draft four of the proposed spending plan Tuesday.

Superintendent of School Jerry Boyd said the new figure reflects a recommendation made by the Putnam County Budget Committee.

“With the Budget Committee’s recommendation, there was an increase in property tax revenue of eight cents, which equated to $1.328 million,” Boyd said, “plus, a non-recurring fund specifically to target capital projects that we had identified in our budget. That was another $1 million.”

The school system’s gap between projected revenue and expenditures began at $8.8 million.

Boyd said cuts to the budget won’t be considered until after the full county commission votes on the budget committee’s recommendation.

“Work’s in front of us, and it always is. We just have to put one foot in front of the other and move forward,” Boyd said. “If it goes a different way when the full commission votes, we have to have that plan ready and what actions we have to take.”

The full county commission meets July 29 to vote on the county’s new spending plan.
