Putnam Man Sentenced to 24 Years in Attempted Murder Case

A Putnam County man was sentenced to 24 years in prison Tuesday following a domestic violence case involving his wife.

James Alex Greer was found guilty on two counts, including attempted first-degree murder as well as employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Reports indicate Greer laid in bed with his wife and put a handgun to her head before the two struggled for the gun.

In a statement, District Attorney Bryant Dunaway thanked the investigative team for their work in the case.

“I am proud of the investigation and prosecution team in this case in holding James Greer accountable for his violent act,” Dunaway said, “and I am very thankful that the victim in this case survived and can carry on.”

Greer will serve 18 years for the attempted murder charge as well as six additional years for the second charge.
