Putnam Habitat For Humanity Expands Into Overton County

Putnam County Habitat for Humanity has expanded its services into Overton County.

Habitat for Humanity Development Director Melissa Parks said the Christian ministry will begin serving Overton County residents through the Neighbor 2 Neighbor program, which provides home improvement repairs for elderly residents.

A roundtable discussion with a number of Overton County businesses and citizens was one of the reasons Habitat for Humanity decided to expand into Overton County, Parks said.

“One of the things that came up was the aging population there and the fact that many of the seniors own their own homes,” Parks said. “They just aren’t able to make basic repairs on a fixed budget, or for health reasons, and some of them need wheelchair ramps.”

“We thought this was a great way to fill a need that the community has told us about and a way to get some buzz going about getting habitat rebooted in Overton County,” Parks said.

Parks said applications for the Neighbor 2 Neighbor program are available on Habitat for Humanity’s website.

The Neighbor 2 Neighbor program is also available for residents in Putnam County.
