Putnam Fairgrounds Hosting Free Flu Shot Event

Tennessee is making a push to get more people across the state vaccinated for the flu this season.

That push brings the 3rd annual Fight Flu TN event to the Putnam County Fairgrounds on Thursday for free, drive-thru flu vaccines. Putnam County Health Department Director Lisa Bumbalough said it is even more important this year to be protected from the flu.

“It’s one of the easiest and most important things that we can do to prevent ourselves from getting the flu and then from passing it to other people,” Bumbalough said. “When you choose to protect yourself from the flu you’re actually protecting everyone around you too, and you’re setting a great example.”

Bumbalough said it is important to remember that you can not get the flu, from getting a flu shot. Also, She said the vaccine needs time to give your body immunity.

“If you get that flu shot it reduces the risk of you having complications, as well if you were to get it,” Bumbalough said. “Just a reminder, it does take two weeks after you get that flu shot to provide some immunity.”

The Fight Flue TN event will take place from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM and no appointment is needed. There will not be COVID testing at this site on November 19.
