Putnam County Preparing Designs To Bid Out Maintenance and Bus Garage Next Year

Designs ready for Putnam County’s county road and maintenance facility and school bus garage to be located on Tennessee Avenue.

Mayor Randy Porter said the facility will be large enough to place all county vehicle maintenance under one roof.

“Our architects and engineers have been working on this for several months now,” Porter said. “Getting real close on getting bid documents ready. I think our goal would probably be to put them out sometime in February and open bids around the end of March.”

Porter said the facility will likely be completed in 2024. It features 16 bays along with office space. The school bus garage will include parking for 100 buses as well as a bus driver training area. A fueling station sits between the two facilities.

Porter said the facility will bring easier access for school buses and address traffic issues present at the current Jefferson Avenue bus garage. Porter said the project will also save the county money on tools and utilities by having three operations at one place.
