A different type of vaccine clinic is starting in Putnam County this Saturday.
It is time to get your cats and dogs vaccinated for rabies. The Putnam County Health Department is partnering with local veterinarians for three weekends of $10 rabies shots.
Environmental Health Specialist Tiffany Johnson said vaccinated pets have a lower chance of contracting the disease from other wild animals.
“Having the rabies clinic is extremely important to try and stop the spread of rabies from mammals to the public,” Johnson said. “So if we can vaccinate our domestic dogs and cats, that will help stop the spread of that disease.”
State law requires all dogs and cats over six months of age to be vaccinated every year. Seven different locations across Putnam County are participating this Saturday.
“These are special clinics that they set up on the weekend,” Johnson said. “It is at a slightly reduced price for these rabies vaccinations. So, they are taking extra time to promote these clinics.”
