Planners Approve Jake Hoot Drive

The Cookeville Planning Commission has voted to rename Foundation Drive to Jake Hoot Drive.

Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity submitted the request to rename the street. Planning Director John Ward said the organization wanted to honor Hoot for winning the 17th season of NBC’s “The Voice.”

“The procedure for street naming and renaming is provided in the municipal code for the City of Cookeville,” Ward said. “The Planning Commission has the authority to name and rename streets. Our 911 department has reviewed the request and has notified us that they have no issues.”

Ward said Hoot has also conducted several fundraising efforts for the organization.

Foundation Drive serves 17 total lots within Upper Cumberland Habitat for Humanity’s West End development.

“15 of these (lots) are for single-family detached developments with two common areas,” Ward said. “There have been five permits issued along the street. Two of the homes are complete at this time and three are under construction.”

The Cookeville Planning Commission voted rename Foundation Drive during Monday’s meeting. The street will officially become Jake Hoot Drive on March 25.
