Pendergrass Recognized by Overton School Board Tuesday

The Overton County School Board recognized Livingston Academy student Tucker Pendergrass for his achievement in National 4-H Archery Tuesday.

4-H Agent Nicole Marrero said the competition took place in Nebraska in June. His team placed 5th in the 3-D shoot.

“It wasn’t easy for that either, he had to face 20-30 mile per hour winds while he’s outside in very unfamiliar territory in comparison to Tennessee,” Marrero said. “So, he really defied the odds by being able to be at that competition and just greatly succeed.”

Marrero said the journey required a lot of effort from Pendergrass. She said she knew she could always count on Pendergrass when she began working with him while he was in sixth grade.

“I could always count on Tucker to follow the rules, be where he says he’s going to be, hold other people accountable and I’ve just really always admired Tucker for that,” Marrero said.

Director of Schools Donnie Holman reiterated Marrero’s statements and commended Pendergrass for his accomplishment.

“I’ve known Tucker his whole life and he’s a well-rounded young man, he has good academics, good athletics and he’s just a very polite young man,” Holman said.

Marrero said Pendergrass is always looking for ways to participate in 4-H regardless of the situation. She said when the 4-H archery team began, the young man was one of the first students to sign up and always placed in the top.

“As he entered high school, as you might have seen his face involved in other stuff, he’s an Angler, he’s on the baseball team, and he exceeds academically,” Marrero said.

In other business, the School Board approved doubling their fuel reimbursement rate from 50 cents to one dollar.

The ruling was for the reimbursement rate of school trips and the after-school program.  This after recent full prices led the Board to re-examine that rate.

School Board Chair Mike Hayes said if gas prices go down Holman has the ability to adjust accordingly to the fluctuation of gas prices.
