Overton Commissioners Approve Vacation Schedule

All full-time Overton County employees will get at least sixteen days of vacation.

County Commissioner Geraldine Walker said she had concerns about some county offices having more days off than others. Walker said some employees received 16 days off last year, while those in the Sheriff’s Department only received five.

“The sheriff’s department, they only got, I don’t know, it was, your twelve-hour employees only got four or five holidays,” Walker said. “And then the ambulance service, they only got, I don’t know, they only got seven or eight. If we’re gonna treat everybody the same, everybody needs to get the same number.”

The Commission agreed that implementing this change would improve retention rates. County Executive Steven Barlow said the new plan will take effect July 25.

Barlow said the plan impacts employees whether they work twelve or eight hours. Barlow said the budget committee approved the measure.
