Overton Co. Hwy 42 Carr Creek Bridge Completion Date Pushed Back

The completion date for the Highway 42 Carr Creek Bridge has been delayed once again to the end of June.

The 220 foot bridge over City Lake was scheduled to be finished this week. Overton County Highway Superintendent James Norrod said concrete work remains undone.

“They plan on pouring one approach slab tomorrow and the other one on a Friday,” Norrod said. “They can pour one of the rails with a crane and a bucket.”

Norrod said after that, equipment will be able to move on the bridge to pour the second rail. Norrod said despite materials causing delays, he is pleased with the project so far.

“They were hoping to get a good cylinder break on one of those approach slabs within seven days, so that they can get the concrete trucks on the bridge to pour the other rail,” Norrod said.

Approach slabs provide drivers a transition from the roadway to the bridge. Norrod said besides that, only a few minor touches remain for the bridge to open.

The project is funded through TDOT’s High Priority Bridge Replacement Program. HPBRP provides funding for priority bridges not located on the State system of highways for local governments meeting the eligibility requirements.
