Overton Chamber Anticipates Big Welcome Party For New Residents

After a two-year COVID hiatus, Overton County’s New Resident Welcome Party returns to Central Park Friday.

The Livingston Overton County Chamber of Commerce organizes the event. Executive Director Shannon Cantrell said over 250 invitations have been sent out.

“We have seen a huge number of new people move here,” Cantrell said. “The chamber is a lot of times one of the first places that these new folks come when they get into town just to learn a little bit about the area and what’s going on.”

Cantrell said she has seen a steady stream of newcomers walking through the chamber’s doors this past year. Cantrell said the event will give new residents an opportunity to meet their neighbors while also networking with local businesses.

“All of our chamber members have been given the opportunity to come and set up and advertise their business,” Cantrell said. “I’ll be giving away items. I have $200 worth of our local first gift cards to give away Friday night and tourism material about Livingston and the Upper Cumberland. Hopefully, it will give them an opportunity to get to know the area.”

Cantrell said the welcome party will feature giveaways, free food and live music. The event will happen from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cantrell said a big part of the event is building on the sense of community that downtown Livingston holds.

“Livingston and Overton County is a great place to live, raise your children, go to work,” Cantrell said. “Sometimes we forget what is right in our backyard and these new residents give me a whole new view of our community, and we really have something to be proud of here.”
