New Wedding Chapel Set To Open In Cookeville

A new wedding chapel preparing to open its doors in Downtown Cookeville, conveniently located across from the County Clerk’s office

Mint To Be owner and Tech graduate Tate Craig said she met many couples who wanted to get married, without the big process. Craig said services are available 24/7, by appointment.

“They all kinda have the same story where they are looking for something that fits in with their very busy schedule, with their work life, with their kids or families,” Craig said. “That isn’t judgmental and is just east for them and I would love to continue this work in the community at this capacity.”

Craig said the chapel is designed to offer simplicity and fun. She said couples can choose from a variety of options and catalogs to personalize their experience. Craig said she aims to make every ceremony as creative and enjoyable as possible.

“There choices for their script. Everything from nontraditional to traditional,” Craig said. “And even some goofy options. The silliest thing we have available is a play-off of Spongebob and you know, I’ve only had one couple do that but they absolutely loved it.”

Craig said to think of the Chapel as an “adult version of Build-A-Bear, but for love”.

“I created Mint to Be Chapel to kinda bridge that gap,” Craig said. “To make a beautiful inclusive space for couples could celebrate their commitment in a way that’s meaningful without the stress.”

Craig said they currently offer six scripts but are open to customizing them based on the couple’s individual preferences. She also said she is ordained and is the only ordained person at the chapel.

Craig said she has a background in working with domestic violence victims. She said that experience taught her to appreciate and celebrate the beautiful moments in life and that the wedding chapel serves as a way to share that “beautiful” feeling with the community.

“In the future, I would like to get more people,” Craig said. “And we can have an actual Vegas-type situation where people can come night or day.”

Craig said placing the chapel in front of the County Clerk’s office was a strategic move. She said she spent six months looking for a location within walking distance of the clerk’s office. Craig said the proximity will make the entire process faster and more seamless.

“If it is right next door, they can get their marriage license, they can get it signed, they can take it back same day,” Craig said. “Go ahead and go head to the Social Security office and get their name changed if that’s what they need to do.”
