New UC Tourism TV Series To Air On WCTE This Spring

A new television series highlighting tourism and local businesses in the Upper Cumberland is set to air this spring.

UCDD Deputy Director Tommy Lee said all 14 counties will be represented.

“We’re working on production right now,” Lee said. “What we’re going to do is get some ideas for some shows, and then we will begin filming hopefully sometime in March, and we’re hoping that the first 10 episodes, which will be season one, will air sometime starting in May.”

The show will air on WCTE in partnership with Tennessee Tech, the Development District and the Upper Cumberland Tourism Association. Lee said the name of the show has yet to be determined.

“We’re going to highlight tourist attractions. The ones that you think of like Dale Hollow Lake and Fall Creek Falls and things like that,” Lee said. “But then, we’re also going off the beaten track with some lesser known tourist attractions, and also, we’re going to highlight local businesses in every episode.”

The UCDD Executive Committee approved applying for a $50,000 Rural Development Grant last week to fund season two. Lee said season one has already been funded by the Economic Development District.

Tourism Recovery Coordinator Hannah Carroll will be the boots on the ground for the project. Work has already started with several Chamber of Commences included in the process so far.

“I think this series will do a great job of highlighting the unique features and amenities that we have here in the Upper Cumberland you can’t find anywhere else,” Carroll said. “We have new businesses and opportunities growing with every community and we would like to bring this to attention.”
