New Traffic Light to be Installed on Neal Street

A new traffic light will be installed later this year on Neal Street in Cookeville.

Public Works Director Greg Brown said the light will be placed at the Perimeter Park Drive and Salem Church Road intersection.

“We’d had several requests from businesses in Perimeter Place that have a difficult time getting out at certain times of the day,” Brown said. “We were monitoring the traffic flow. There’s several warrants you have to look at [and] they finally met a couple of them this year.”

Brown said the new traffic signal will cost the city around $40,000 to $45,000. Data collected did not explicitly include personal property or injury accidents.

“There was not enough of them to actually trigger the warrant for the signal,” Brown said. “It was the traffic flow that caused the signal to meet the warrants.”

Brown said the signal will likely be installed either later this summer or in the fall once the new 2018-2019 fiscal year officially begins.
