New Railroad Crossing Signals Anticipated For Cedar Crossing

Nashville Eastern Railroad has not provided its total design for the railroad crossing at Cedar Avenue, but Cookeville Public Works Director Greg Brown anticipates it will be updated signal lights.

Brown said the city’s part of the project will be increasing visibility of the crossing with new signs and street markings. However, that work will not begin until Nashville Eastern Railroad completes its part of the project.

“Ours won’t take that long, and we want to make sure they’re done with their work,” Brown said. “Particularly the street markings, they may have to cut the asphalt or anything. So, we don’t want to do that while they still have work to do.”

Brown said the city met on site with T-DOT and a contract was sent to the city, which was approved at the last City Council meeting. He said T-DOT is working with the railroad on their end.

“We had met on site with the T-DOT people to look at what we could do there, they came up with a design on what to do,” Brown said. “They sent us a contract, that’s what the council approved at the last council meeting, for us to moved forward with that. They’ve got the contract now and I guess they’re working with the railroad to get their contract signed.”

Brown said this project will increase visibility of the railroad crossing. He said this is for drivers to be better indicated that they are approaching the crossing.
