The Monterey Branch Library hosting a free job fair Wednesday to help locals impacted by the closure of the Perdue chicken processing plant.
Goodwill Career Solutions Career Coach Sean Boring said resources will help people write resumes, apply for jobs, and improve their interviewing skills. Boring said the event will allow people to establish a connection with Goodwill that they can rely on for professional support even after they find a new job.
“What we’re going to do is when these individuals come in and they need (this) assistance we will sit down, we will talk about what their needs are,” Boring said. “We’ll do a quick intake and then we’ll sit down and schedule them to come in and see us in our office. I’ll work with these individuals one-on-one if needed.”
Boring said members from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, the American Job Center, and other community partners will also be there providing resources. Boring said the goal is to help people improve their different job hunting skills so they can find a new position that is still within their pay range.
The free event is open to the public and takes place from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
“A lot of people feel lost,” Boring said. “Anytime that a company or an organization closes people feel like they don’t know where to go. So that’s why we step in we try to help them out and we try to give them a direction.”
Boring said he was contacted by Putnam County Library Director Kathryn Wisinger about the idea of putting the event on at the Monterey Library. Boring said the event is open to anyone in the community interested in these resources, not just those affected by the Perdue closure.
“Our centers are designed to help, even if they found a job and they’re not quite happy with it we can help them find a better job or even a career,” Boring said.
