The vacant Monterey Fred’s building on Stratton Avenue has been bought by a local business owner.
Alderman J.J. Reels said Owner Chris Lander wants to open a new retail store sometime in the future.
“I am excited that it sold, because the building has been sitting there for a year,” Reels said. “So, it is another location of another new business coming to Monterey. It is a sign of great things coming to Monterey.”
Reels said about 25 new jobs will come with the new retail store. Lander also owns LanMills.
Fred’s announced in July of 2019 it would close another 129 stores, including its Livingston and Monterey locations. The Monterey location was only open just over a year.
