Monterey Business Damaged In Accidental Commercial Fire

A Wednesday afternoon commercial fire caused extensive damage to a Monterey pole barn building company at Clarkrange Highway.

Putnam County Fire Chief Tom Brown said the department estimates Troyer Post Buildings suffered some $100,000 in damage.

“They had a large warehouse with an office attached to that warehouse,” Brown said. “The office is where the fire originated. When we arrived on the scene, the office part was fully involved. Crews started working on cutting the fire off to keep it out of the warehouse building.”

Brown said units were successful in saving the warehouse, but the office was deemed a total loss. Brown said the accidental fire was caused by a can of flammable liquid getting knocked over near an electric heater.

“We feel pretty good about the response and the stop,” Brown said. “Probably a $4 million dollar property, and we kept it down to about $100,000 of damage.”

Brown said the business was occupied at the time, but no one was injured. Brown said the Putnam County Fire Department was on the scene over four hours.

Troyer Post Buildings is located towards the Fentress County line at 21745 Clarkrange Highway. According to the business’s Facebook, the company asks patrons to, “Bear with us as we do our best to answer phone calls and process deliveries.”
