McMinnville Parks And Rec Teams Up With WCHS For Baseball Skills Clinic

McMinnville Parks and Recreation will host a baseball clinic this Saturday, April 30th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Athletics Coordinator Terry Beard said that the city is partnering up with the Warren County High School baseball team to teach the clinic. He said that kids can brush up on skills like fielding, hitting, and catching.

“The kids that play in our league will go to the appropriate field that they play on and those guys will go over some drills with them,” Beard said.  “I thought that the little kids would be excited about it. They’re going to look up to those older kids like they were pros or something.”

Beard said that kids from ages three to 15 are welcome to attend. He said that he and WCHS Baseball Coach Phillip King have been working together to set up the event.

“I told him to send me some boys who he thought would work well with the little kids and put them on that field and teach them whatever they’re able to absorb,” Beard said. “And then progressively on up kids that can teach the older boys, the 13 to 15-year-olds, some of the finer points of high school baseball.”

Beard said that not only is this free event helpful to young baseball lovers, it’s also a good cause. He said that they ask attendees to bring canned food to donate.

“I talked to the lady that helps with Back to the Strip, Meals on Wheels, and that kind of thing, and she suggested Families in Crisis,” Beard said. “And so I contacted them, they said that they had a need and that they would be glad to do that, so it all fit together.”

Beard said that he recommends wearing comfortable clothing and to bring a glove and gear if possible. He said a few members from the WCHS Softball team will be present to help girls with pitching.

Check in is at 9:30 a.m
