May Unemployment For Most UC Counties Stays Steady Since April

The Upper Cumberland saw minimal changes in unemployment numbers for the month of May.

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported just five counties about the five percent mark. Clay County remains the highest unemployment rate of 5.5 percent but only increased 0.1 percent from April.

Pickett County saw the highest increase in the region from April to May. The rate increased by 1.1 percent to 4.4 percent. Warren County has the second highest rate for May at 5.4 percent and a 0.4 percent rise.

Van Buren, Dekalb and Cumberland Counties are all above five percent. The other Upper Cumberland Counties followed the state trend of staying below five percent unemployed.
