Man Charged With Attempting To Strangle Pregnant Girlfriend

Algood Police charged a man with assaulting a fetus after he allegedly attempted to strangle his pregnant girlfriend.

Officers arrested John Clark Sewell Jr. after responding to a domestic disturbance Saturday. The defendant left the Putnam County Jail after posting $11,000 bond.

An arrest warrant said Sewell attempted to strangle the woman after an argument ensued between the two. Officer Brandon Bean noted that he observed several marks around the victim’s neck consistent with the attempt of strangulation.

The report said the the victim received medical treatment at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Sewell faces charges of aggravated assault, assault of a fetus, and interference with emergency phone call. He allegedly broke the victim’s phone when she attempted to dial 911.
