Livingston Seeking Funding For Courthouse Grounds Improvements

The City of Livingston would like to see some improvements made to the courthouse grounds.

Downtown Revitalization Committee Chairman Ray Evans said he may have found a funding mechanism for the project.

“Since we’ve had this set of plans, we continue to look for a grant source that these improvements would be eligible,” Evans said. “Those are few and far between. We tried an ARC grant a few months ago and there’s some USDA grants that might fit as well. Without a doubt, this Transportation Alternatives Program Grant from TDOT is the best source of funds that we could ever get.”

Livingston City Council voted to allow the Downtown Revitalization Committee to apply for the grant during Monday’s meeting. Evans said the maximum grant amount would be $475,000 with an $86,000 match for Livingston.

“That’s subject to Overton County contributing in that equal amount. So, the total collateral shortfall…the match plus the expenses is $172,000,” Evans said. “Since it’s on county property, we think it would be appropriate for the county to go 50-50 with us on those matches and expenses.”

October 3rd marks the deadline to apply for the grant. Evans said the state usually awards the funding during the spring.
