Livingston Property Board Finds Several Upkeep Violations

Livingston’s Property Maintenance Board members have determined several more properties to be in violation of city code.

City Building Inspector Krisitan Mansell said any citizen can file a complaint to be reviewed by the board.

“Whether it falls in compliance or it’s not in compliance is something we decide as a group with the property board and myself,” Mansell said. “Most are legit, some are not. We do take them all seriously, so we check into everything and go out, take pictures, [and determine] how we need to handle the situation.”

The complaints were brought before the board Tuesday evening. Several properties with complaints against them remedied issues by leveling and burying old structures, trimming weeds and brush, or renewing tags on old vehicles.

In one instance, a property along East University Drive was found to be in violation of city codes due to “miscellaneous issues.” Mansell said the city has taken care of the issue themselves and the property owner will be billed for services.

“The gentleman did not take care of the situation. The city has actually went over there,” Mansell said. “We cut all these shrubs in front of the house down… it is actually still covered in vines. I think it would probably look better with vines than if they were dragged off it. All in all, the property’s been cleaned up all the way around and it was found to be in compliance at this time.”

Mansell said property owners found to be in violation of city code Tuesday will be notified as soon as possible.

Citizens can file complaints on unruly yards, junk vehicles and scrap, and other miscellaneous hazards or issues to Livingston codes enforcement officials.
