Livingston Minister: Liquor Stores Could Be Harmful

A Livingston referendum allowing liquor stores in the city could cause more harm than good.

Livingston Church of Christ Minister Jonathan Ledbetter disagrees with the referendum.

“Allowing more access to alcohol through the different stores… could be a potential health hazard, for starters,” Ledbetter said.

Ledbetter said an increase in revenue isn’t worth the potential risks that come with liquor sales.

“It sounds like there could be a lot of funds for some good things,” Ledbetter said, “but I don’t necessarily agree with bringing in bad things in order to get some good things.”

Ledbetter warned passing the referendum could lead to more drinking and driving incidents.

“I don’t agree with the drinking of alcohol,” Ledbetter said. “I think it leads to more bad things than it does good. Overall it leads to more danger, as I see it.”

Ledbetter said he will discuss the issue further with members of the church.
