Livingston Eligible for More Project Diabetes Funding

Livingston will reapply for additional grant funding after being informed of their eligibility for another Project Diabetes grant.

Downtown Revitalization Committee Chair Ray Evans said he and Mayor Curtis Hayes were informed last Friday of the opportunity and submitted an application immediately.

“There was an opportunity to apply again for a Diabetes Grant, similar to the one that we’ve had the benefit of for the last three years,” Evans said. “That grant is from the State Department of Health and is a non-match grant, a 100 percent grant, for $150,000 a year.”

Evans said the grant would go towards various improvements around the city’s Central Park.

“We’ll see if we’re successful. The application would do some additional sidewalk work in the area of Central Park,” Evans said, “and would also allow some additional property to be acquired for some additional athletic facilities in that general vicinity as well.”

The city accepted funding from the Project Diabetes grant earlier this year to help improve sidewalks along Preston Street. The grant funding was also used to help construct Central Park.
