The Fentress County Commission has appointed Larry Cooper to the county fire chief position.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said Cooper spent the past 25 years serving as chief of the Allardt Fire Department.
“He has a lot of experience in the situation and has a good financial background also,” Johnson said. “He knows about several grants because with the City of Allardt they built a building two or three fire trucks on grants. They’re doing a real good job in Allardt and that’s because they always work together.”
Cooper replaces Hollis Crabtree, who recently retired as Fentress County Fire Chief. Cooper’s appointment must be approved by the Jamestown City Council because the county fire chief also serves as the city fire chief.
“That’s how it always has been, so I’m hoping the city will go along with it,” Johnson said. “I will have to present that (appointment) to them at the next city meeting.”
The Fentress County Commission appointed Cooper to the position during Monday night’s meeting. Commissioners also appointed Gary Reagan to the assistant chief position.
