LA Students’ Spring Learning Decision Form Is Due Friday

Livingston Academy students have until Friday to decide between in-person or virtual learning for the spring.

Any student that chooses virtual can not return in person for the remainder of the year. Director of Schools Mark Winningham said the permanent decision allows the school system to appoint virtual only class periods.

“If I am teaching say history at the high school, I am teaching both in-person and virtual students,” Winningham said. “What we have found is that may not be the most productive way to provide virtual instruction. So what we are trying to do is free up those teachers, so that they can provide a better instructional climate.”

It is preferred that students who pick virtual have a stable internet connection, but Winningham said the school system does have some hot spots available for those without access.

“This is only for Livingston Academy students,” Winningham said. “The other students in the district there should not be schedule changes or things like that. This is to assist with students that are doing virtual learning. It is hopefully an opportunity to free up a instructor say an English, math, science, social studies to provide instruction for those students that are virtual only.”

The online form is available through Livingston Academy’s Virtual Education Facebook page. Winningham said high school schedule changes could be made depending on the number of virtual learners.

Winningham said a student also can not switch from in person to virtual.
