Jackson Schools Approve Almost $200K In Grant-Funded Project Bids

The Jackson County School Board approved bids for almost $200,000 of improvement projects at a meeting Thursday night.

Director of Schools Kristy Brown said that the three approved bids were all covered by grant funding.

“We’ve been able to make the most of our grant funds and do some of the upgrades and maintenance for some of the buildings that have needed to be done and parking lot areas,” Brown said. “Things like that, to just make our buildings better for our students and people that work there.”

The three projects will include new windows and doors at the Old ALC Building, upgrades for HVAC and AG shop, and a concrete project at the middle and high school. One additional project for work on the parking lot at the middle and high school did not receive a bid. The board decided to extend the bid until the next meeting.

Maintenance Technician Josh Morgan said that the project would be at the teachers’ parking lot connected to the middle school. He said that work would include fixing potholes and cracks, as well as resealing and repainting the lot.

The board also approved bidding out a project to get more school buses. Brown said that they were instructed by the schools’ transportation supervisor that it be a necessity in the near future.
