Jackson EMS Proposes Bonus For COVID Work

The Jackson County Budget Committee is considering giving full-time EMS workers an $800 bonus for COVID-19 work.

EMS Director Keith Bean brought the proposal to the committee at its meeting Thursday night. The total cost for the bonuses set at $9,600 dollars. That’s for the 12 employees working in EMS.

Bean suggested using federal stimulus money to fund the bonuses.

Jackson County received over $25,000 dollars of COVID stimulus dollars from the federal government. Bean said around $5,800 dollars has been spent on PPE, a washer and dryer for cleaning clothing that may have come into contact with COVID patients, and two ultraviolet sanitizing lamps.

Bean said he wants to use the remainder of the stimulus on extra PPE in case there is a COVID spike in the summer or fall.

The budget committee will continue its work next week.
