Jackson Director Of Schools Receives High Marks, Contract Extension

Jackson County Director of Schools Kristy Brown received high marks on this year’s director evaluations, scoring a 4.9 out of 5.

Board Chair Mark Brown said that Kristy Brown is a blessing to the school system, and the county itself.

“I think we have a highly skilled and highly trained director of schools here that applies and does a lot of grants and goes beyond the call of duty for our kids and our students and teachers here,” Brown said. “And she puts her heart and soul into the schools.”

The director was scored on her board relationships, educational leadership, and community relationships among other items. Kristy Brown said it’s the work of a whole team of people to help the work get done in the school system.

In addition to a high score, Brown also received a two-year extension on her contract as Director of Schools. The board voted to approve the contract unanimously, with the rate of pay to be determined in the budget process.

“Mrs. Brown has asked for the same contract renewal or extension as what she’s got,” Mark Brown said. “So if it’s pleasing to the board, you all know she got a good evaluation. And she does a great job for the schools I have to say. And at this time, in my opinion, we’re all looking at budget and money. And we hope the state gives all the teachers and everybody a raise and does everything for everybody. And of course, Mrs. Brown will get that according to with her contract because she carries a teachers license.”

Brown was originally hired as the Director of Schools in 2018 after serving as the Principal at Jackson County High School.

Brown’s contract now runs until 2026.
