Jackson County Meeting Army Corps of Engineers For Roaring River Enhancements

Jackson County officials will meet with the Army Corps of Engineers Thursday to talk expansion and enhancements for Roaring River Park.

Mayor Randy Heady said the Army Corps of Engineers has shown interest in improving the park themselves. Heady said they had floated the idea of adding things like a Frisbee golf course, however now the county has its own master plan to show what people in the community really want.

“They’re really interested in what the community wants,” Heady said. “We now have that on paper for them, on digital for them and I think that was of huge interest to the Army Corps. Because if we don’t do anything with it, maybe they can.”

Heady said that he was been striving to build this relationship between the county and the Army Corps of Engineers for over three years. He said to even have a lease with the Army Corps of Engineers, they have to have a 5-year plan and a 10-year plan, and now the county has both.

“While it may not be written in stone, it’s still a good conceptual plan,” Heady said. “It shows the concept of what the people want and what the leadership wants in the community.”

He said that two Army Corps of Engineers officials will be taking part in this meeting. Heady said this meeting is the start to see what can be done at Roaring River Park moving forward.
