Grundy County Forfeits Tonight’s Game Against Upperman

Grundy County High School has forfeited tonight’s football game against the Upperman Bees.

The move comes after authorities charged five football players for allegedly trying to rape a 15-year-old boy inside the school’s field house on Wednesday.

Authorities have charged the accused individuals with attempted aggravated rape. They will appear in court juvenile court Monday morning.

Putnam County Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said he was notified of the forfeiture earlier today.

“We don’t have any details of their circumstances other than what we have seen on the media,” Boyd said. “We want to support to Grundy County community in any way that we can and certainly our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families in the community that have been impacted by this situation.”

Upperman High School Athletic Director Greg Wilson declined to comment when contacted by phone this afternoon. Tonight’s game was scheduled to be played in Baxter.
