GES Welcoming Students Back To School With Luau Night

Gainesboro Elementary School is welcoming students back to school on Thursday with a luau theme.

Principal Tina Cassetty said the school always looks for a fun theme when it comes to parent engagement events. Cassetty said the event starts at 5:00 PM with an informational meeting, but then comes the moment students wait for all summer.

“The kids are very excited to find out who their teacher is going to be,” Cassetty said. “Then of course which friends are going to be in their classroom. So it will be a very big night for them.”

Cassetty said that tables will be set up with various types of information and signups for interested parents.

“That night we’ll have several tables set up from people in the community,” Cassetty said. “I know our PTO will have a table set up in case parents are interested in becoming involved in the Parent Teacher Organization. People from the youth football league are going to have a table set up and then also people like the health department.”

She said if parents have any questions going into the school year, showing up at the start time is the best idea. Cassetty said the school handbook will go out Thursday night, in case anyone misses the information.

“I go over some basic information about school start time, drop off and pickup,” Cassetty said. “What time they need to be here if they’re wanting to have breakfast.”

Cassetty said that once the formalities finish, everyone will get together and enjoy the luau together with a barbecue dinner before things end at 7:00 PM. The school will be open for the back to school luau from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
