Gainesboro Pet Adoption Event Happening Downtown Saturday

Multiple animal organizations will be hosting a pet adoption event in Gainesboro Saturday.

Jackson County Domestic Animal Committee Member Karen Fitzmaurice said the event begins at 10:00 a.m. by the county courthouse.

“Jackson County has no animal shelter or animal warden, and it makes it very difficult for people when they get drop offs of cats and kittens to know what to do with them,” Fitzmaurice said. “We would like to try to resolve that by having people foster them.”

Fitzmaurice said kittens, cats and dogs will all be looking for new homes. Fitzmaurice said the goal is to continue the adoption event every six months.

“We will have lot of cats and kittens, at least 15 to 20,” Fitzmaurice said. “We only have a few dogs up for adoption right now, but we have a couple of cute little ones and a nice larger one.”

Fitzmaurice said A.A.R.F.F, Friends of Animals and Caring About The Strays will all be present Saturday. Fitzmaurice said the animal groups will be providing information on Spayed, Neutering and relocation plans.

“Adopters will fill out a form, and then, we will review that and make sure they are capable of taking care of the animal they are interested in,” Fitzmaurice said. “If it is determined they are capable, we will be doing a home visit to make sure everything there is appropriate.”

Prices will depend on organization fee rates. Fitzmaurice said other family fun like face painting and a local auction will also come with the event.
