Gainesboro Payroll Software Decision Tabled

Gainesboro Aldermen tabled a decision to upgrade the city’s payroll software, so they could better understand all the options.

The proposal would have upgraded the payroll software to a newer version at the price of $13,856. Town Clerk Lisa Dodson said the city has to upgrade as the older software will no longer be supported.

“As far as the cyber security and everything we wouldn’t have any support,” Dodson said. “They wouldn’t be able to help us and they wouldn’t even be able to offer it to us and so they have been changing people over to next-gen for about the past five years.”

Alderman Beth Young said most payroll programs have the same functions and that she would like to look over the proposal some more to consider other options.

“That’s the reason why I’m like I can’t make a decision,” Young said. “I think we need to look at something else but that’s the reason I’ve gotta back away.”

Alderman Tom Goetz made a motion to approve the upgrade but the motion failed. The aldermen also tabled a decision to purchase a new workstation for the payroll software. The workstation was priced at an estimated $2,150. Mayor Lloyd Williams said the aldermen should consider other items and projects coming up before approving a workstation and updated software.

“Well it sounds like we are gonna pay this amount no matter where we go,” Williams said. “I don’t know, you know we got a lot of bills coming up I mean you can just see that on the agenda so I do not know.”

Dodson said the town pays an estimated $12,000 a year for support for the current software. Dodson said if the town upgraded the software and the workstation it would eat an estimated $25,000 in next year’s budget. In the coming weeks, the aldermen will continue looking over options to find a resolution.
