G.F. Hardwoods Receives 30 Thousand Dollar State Grant

Clay County’s G.F. Hardwoods has received a $30,000 grant from the state’s agriculture Enterprise Fund.

The grant provides assistance to new and expanding Tennessee agriculture and food businesses in rural counties.

Dr. Nick Patterson is one of the joint operating officers of G.F. Hardwoods, which is one of the largest employers in Clay County.

“We are honored to be able to live in a state where they value agricultural businesses that are out here making an impact in the lives of those in the state,” Patterson said.

G.F Hardwoods will be using the funding to update its kiln drying system and to purchase a new loader.

Successful grant recipients like GF Hardwoods were required to demonstrate strong potential for impact on local farm income, access to markets, increased capacity or agricultural innovation.

“The logs for our lumber are acquired within a 30-50 mile radius of our plant,” Patterson said. “We are proud to partner with landowners and loggers, who along with our team at our onsite milling operation, Moss Sawmills, enable us to consistently produce quality lumber that is competitive in a global market.”

Eight other businesses across the state received part of the $767,000 set aside for the Agriculture Enterprise Fund.
