Free Landscaping Opportunity For Tornado Survivors

A Cookeville nursery is offering free landscaping plants for tornado survivors.

Mid-Tenn Nursery and Landscaping is providing this service to help survivors either start or enhance their landscaping. Owner Bill Bullington said he just wants to help people feel better about the future.

“When you plant something, it’s an investment in the future and it’s hard to downplay the effect of putting a little effort into the future,” Bullington said.

Bullington said his nursery has multiple options for foundational landscaping like ornamental and flowering shrubs. He said each family affected from the March Tornado will receive a certain dollar amount plus an additional discount if they need more.

Tornado survivors have the option to pick up the plants they need the same day or later. Bullington said visitors should bring a photo of the area they want landscaped so he can better find what they need.

“They have to believe that things are going to get better,” Bullington said. “They’ve gotten a double whammy between the tornado and then COVID. I don’t see how they’re hanging in there but they are. So I’m just trying to help them.”

Any tornado survivors interested can visit the nursery between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
